tw: talk about surgery (little detailed)

I made it through surgery and now make mean jokes to people I kinda know that I've been absent for a while because I got stabbed five times, which is true(kinda, they're incisions that people gently pushed tools through) but not nearly as violent an association as they're probably making lmao.
I said this to the guy (manager) at gamestop that I talk to all the time when I go in to pick up my (many) games and he just kinda looked me in the eye, really deadpan, and I said, "it's okay! It was just surgery!" and he looks at me some more and I'm like "it was repair for a hiatal hernia! And I haven't used acid reflux medication since!" and that kinda broke the tense-ish atmosphere and he laughed and said that that's awesome LMAO
We vented for a bit about shitty customers and anti-vaxxer/maskers and he said that he's glad that retail in my state is going back under a mask-required (which went into effect this Mon) mandate and I'M relieved too, because I noticed that the door didn't have the mask note on it anymore and went in without a mask on and noticed that everyone else didn't have a mask on, including the employee and so kept my mask off but also kept 6 feet away from everyone else in the store
Then I talked to the manager J and said that I felt akward putting a mask on when it isn't "required" because I feel like I'm putting a target on my face for assholes and asked him if the store was making him not wear a mask and he burst out that he felt the same way I did because he *could* wear a mask he just didn't want to attract the attention of that shitty kind of customer either!
